All Saint’s Day
Vespers

Introduction
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.

Antiphon 1 I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, standing before the throne.

Psalm 109 (110)    Dixit Dominus
The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,
until I make your enemies your footstool.”

The Lord will send the scepter of your power out of Zion,
saying, “Rule over your enemies round about you.

“Princely state has been yours from the day of your birth;
in the beauty of holiness have I begotten you,
like dew from the womb of the morning.”

The Lord has sworn and he will not recant:
“You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”

The Lord who is at your right hand
will smite kings in the day of his wrath;
he will rule over the nations.

He will heap high the corpses;
he will smash heads over the wide earth.

He will drink from the brook beside the road;
therefore he will lift high his head.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

Antiphon I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, standing before the throne.

Antiphon 2 And all the angels stood around the throne and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God.

Psalm 111 (112)    Beatus vir
Alleluia!

Happy are they who fear the Lord
and have great delight in his commandments!
Their descendants will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.

Wealth and riches will be in their house,
and their righteousness will last for ever.
Light shines in the darkness for the upright;
the righteous are merciful and full of compassion.

It is good for them to be generous in lending
and to manage their affairs with justice.
For they will never be shaken;
the righteous will be kept in everlasting remembrance.

They will not be afraid of any evil rumors;
their heart is right;
they put their trust in the Lord.
Their heart is established and will not shrink,
until they see their desire upon their enemies.

They have given freely to the poor,
and their righteousness stands fast for ever;
they will hold up their head with honor.

The wicked will see it and be angry;
they will gnash their teeth and pine away;
the desires of the wicked will perish.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

Antiphon And all the angels stood around the throne and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God.

Antiphon 3 You ransomed us, Lord God, by your blood, from every tribe and language and people and nation; you have made us to be a kingdom serving our God.

Psalm 112 (113)    Laudate, pueri
Alleluia!

Give praise, you servants of the Lord;
praise the Name of the Lord.
Let the Name of the Lord be blessed,
from this time forth for evermore.
From the rising of the sun to its going down
let the Name of the Lord be praised.

The Lord is high above all nations,
and his glory above the heavens.
Who is like the Lord our God, who sits enthroned on high,
but stoops to behold the heavens and the earth?

He takes up the weak out of the dust
and lifts up the poor from the ashes.
He sets them with the princes,
with the princes of his people.
He makes the woman of a childless house
to be a joyful mother of children.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

Antiphon You ransomed us, Lord God, by your blood, from every tribe and language and people and nation; you have made us to be a kingdom serving our God.

Antiphon 4 Praise for all his loyal servants, the children of Israel, a people who are near him: this is glory for all his faithful people.

Psalm 115 (116:9-17)    Credidi, propter quod
I believed, even when I said,
“I have been brought very low.”
In my distress I said, “No one can be trusted.”

How shall I repay the Lord
for all the good things he has done for me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call upon the Name of the Lord.

I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his servants.

O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant and the child of your handmaid;
you have freed me from my bonds.
I will offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call upon the Name of the Lord.

I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
In the courts of the Lord’s house,
in the midst of you, O Jerusalem.

Alleluia!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

Antiphon Praise for all his loyal servants, the children of Israel, a people who are near him: this is glory for all his faithful people.

Short Lesson: 2 Corinthians 6:16b; 7:1
You are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and of spirit, making holiness perfect in the fear of God.

Responsory
Holy and righteous, rejoice in the Lord.
Holy and righteous, rejoice in the Lord.
God chose you to be his own, rejoice in the Lord.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
Holy and righteous, rejoice in the Lord.

Hymn     Christe Redemptor omnium
To your poor servants reconciled
show mercy, Christ, for whom the mild
and Virgin patroness this grace
implore before your Father’s face.

You glorious hosts, whose circle nine
before God’s throne refulgent shine,
shield us with your celestial arms
from past, present, and future harms.

Apostles with the Prophets plead
for weeping sinners in their need,
that from their Judge severe they gain
pardon, effacing guilt’s dark stain.

You purpled martyrs, you, now dressed
in white because your lives confessed
your Lord on earth, us exiles call
unto the fatherland of all.

O choir of virgins, stainless band!
and you for whom the desert land
made sure the way to heavenly rest,
prepare us mansions with the blessed.

Glory, O Father, to your name;
eternal Son, to yours the same;
to Holy Paraclete be praise
throughout the everlasting days. Amen.

Verse
Be glad, you righteous, and rejoice in the Lord.
Shout for joy, all who are true of heart.

Antiphon Oh, how glorious is the kingdom in which all the saints rejoice with Christ! Dressed in white clothes, they follow the Lamb wherever he goes.

Canticle: Luke 1:46-55    Magnificat anima mea
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior;
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel,
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

Antiphon Oh, how glorious is the kingdom in which all the saints rejoice with Christ! Dressed in white clothes, they follow the Lamb wherever he goes.

Litany
Kyrie eleison.
Christe eleison.
Kyrie eleison.

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
  hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
  your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
  Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.

Collect
Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Conclusion
Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
