All Saint’s Day
Vigils
Invitatory
I call aloud upon the Lord,
and he answers me from his holy hill;
I lie down and go to sleep;
I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
I do not fear the multitudes of people
who set themselves against me all around.
Rise up, O Lord; set me free, O my God;
surely, you will strike all my enemies across the face,
you will break the teeth of the wicked.
Deliverance belongs to the Lord.
Your blessing be upon your people!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon
God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints: come, let us adore him.
Antiphon
God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints: come, let us adore him.
Ever and always, all the angel chorus,
blesses you, yourself, who reign in high heaven,
and the saints of all the whole world together give you their praises.
By the merits of holy Virgin Mary,
and of all those who are equally faithful,
withhold the sanction, which we owe your mercy, and give us healing.
Here we stand ready, to honor your praises,
That we may be able in faith to follow
that praise to heaven, singing to the Triad, with constant hymning. Amen.
First Nocturn
Antiphon 1: The Lord knows the way of the righteous, who meditate on his law day and night.
They are like trees planted by streams of water,
bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither;
everything they do shall prosper.
It is not so with the wicked;
they are like chaff which the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked shall not stand upright when judgment comes,
nor the sinner in the council of the righteous.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked is doomed.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: The Lord knows the way of the righteous, who meditate on his law day and night.
Antiphon 2: The Lord does wonders for his faithful; when they call upon the Lord, he will hear them.
“You mortals, how long will you dishonor my glory;
how long will you worship dumb idols
and run after false gods?”
Know that the Lord does wonders for the faithful;
when I call upon the Lord, he will hear me.
Tremble, then, and do not sin;
speak to your heart in silence upon your bed.
Offer the appointed sacrifices
and put your trust in the Lord.
Many are saying,
“Oh, that we might see better times!”
Lift up the light of your countenance upon us, O Lord.
You have put gladness in my heart,
more than when grain and wine and oil increase.
I lie down in peace; at once I fall asleep;
for only you, Lord, make me dwell in safety.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: The Lord does wonders for his faithful; when they call upon the Lord, he will hear them.
Antiphon 3: All who take refuge in you will be glad, O Lord; they will sing out their joy for ever; you will shelter them, so that those who love your Name may exult in you.
In the morning you hear my voice;
early in the morning I make my appeal and watch for you.
For you are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,
and evil cannot dwell with you.
Braggarts cannot stand in your sight;
you hate all those who work wickedness.
You destroy those who speak lies;
the bloodthirsty and deceitful, O Lord, you abhor.
But as for me, through the greatness of your mercy I will go into your house;
I will bow down toward your holy temple in awe of you.
Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness,
because of those who lie in wait for me;
make your way straight before me.
For there is no truth in their mouth;
there is destruction in their heart;
their throat is an open grave;
they flatter with their tongue.
Declare them guilty, O God;
let them fall, because of their schemes.
Because of their many transgressions, cast them out,
for they have rebelled against you.
But all who take refuge in you will be glad;
they will sing out their joy for ever.
You will shelter them,
so that those who love your Name may exult in you.
For you, O Lord, will bless the righteous;
you will defend them with your favor as with a shield.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: All who take refuge in you will be glad, O Lord; they will sing out their joy for ever; you will shelter them, so that those who love your Name may exult in you.
Antiphon 4: How exalted is your name, O Lord; you adorn your holy ones with glory and honor; you give them mastery over the works of your hands.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars you have set in their courses,
What is man that you should be mindful of him?
the son of man that you should seek him out?
You have made him but little lower than the angels;
you adorn him with glory and honor;
You give him mastery over the works of your hands;
you put all things under his feet:
All sheep and oxen,
even the wild beasts of the field,
the birds of the air, the fish of the sea,
and whatsoever walks in the paths of the sea.
O Lord our Governor,
how exalted is your Name in all the world!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: How exalted is your name, O Lord; you adorn your holy ones with glory and honor; you give them mastery over the works of your hands.
Antiphon 5: Lord, those who do what is right may dwell in your tabernacle, and abide upon your holy hill.
There is no guile upon his tongue;
he does no evil to his friend;
he does not heap contempt upon his neighbor.
In his sight the wicked is rejected,
but he honors those who fear the Lord.
He has sworn to do no wrong
and does not take back his word.
He does not give his money in hope of gain,
nor does he take a bribe against the innocent.
Whoever does these things
shall never be overthrown.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: Lord, those who do what is right may dwell in your tabernacle, and abide upon your holy hill.
Antiphon 6: Such is the generation of those who seek the Lord, of those who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
“Who can ascend the hill of the Lord?
and who can stand in his holy place?”
“Those who have clean hands and a pure heart,
who have not pledged themselves to falsehood,
nor sworn by what is a fraud.
“They shall receive a blessing from the Lord
and a just reward from the God of their salvation.”
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
of those who seek your face, O God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O gates;
lift them high, O everlasting doors;
and the King of glory shall come in.
“Who is this King of glory?”
“The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle.”
Lift up your heads, O gates;
lift them high, O everlasting doors;
and the King of glory shall come in.
“Who is he, this King of glory?”
“The Lord of hosts,
he is the King of glory.”
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: Such is the generation of those who seek the Lord, of those who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Absolution
Lord Jesus Christ, hear the prayers of your people and have mercy on us, who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
Blessings
May the eternal Father give us an everlasting blessing. Amen.
May the only-begotten Son of God be pleased to bless us and help us. Amen.
May the grace of the Holy Spirit enlighten our minds and hearts. Amen.
May the Father and the Son bless us in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Second Nocturn
Antiphon 1: Love the Lord, all you who worship him; the Lord protects the faithful.
Be my strong rock, a castle to keep me safe,
for you are my crag and my stronghold;
for the sake of your Name, lead me and guide me.
Take me out of the net that they have secretly set for me,
for you are my tower of strength.
Into your hands I commend my spirit,
for you have redeemed me,
O Lord, O God of truth.
I hate those who cling to worthless idols,
and I put my trust in the Lord.
I will rejoice and be glad because of your mercy;
for you have seen my affliction;
you know my distress.
You have not shut me up in the power of the enemy;
you have set my feet in an open place.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in trouble;
my eye is consumed with sorrow,
and also my throat and my belly.
For my life is wasted with grief,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails me because of affliction,
and my bones are consumed.
I have become a reproach to all my enemies and even to my neighbors,
a dismay to those of my acquaintance;
when they see me in the street they avoid me.
I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind;
I am as useless as a broken pot.
For I have heard the whispering of the crowd;
fear is all around;
they put their heads together against me;
they plot to take my life.
But as for me, I have trusted in you, O Lord.
I have said, “You are my God.
My times are in your hand;
rescue me from the hand of my enemies,
and from those who persecute me.
“Make your face to shine upon your servant,
and in your loving-kindness save me.”
Lord, let me not be ashamed for having called upon you;
rather, let the wicked be put to shame;
let them be silent in the grave.
Let the lying lips be silenced which speak against the righteous,
haughtily, disdainfully, and with contempt.
How great is your goodness, O Lord!
which you have laid up for those who fear you;
which you have done in the sight of all
for those who put their trust in you.
You hide them in the covert of your presence from those who slander them;
you keep them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.
Blessed be the Lord!
for he has shown me the wonders of his love in a besieged city.
Yet I said in my alarm,
“I have been cut off from the sight of your eyes.”
Nevertheless, you heard the sound of my entreaty
when I cried out to you.
Love the Lord, all you who worship him;
the Lord protects the faithful,
but repays to the full those who act haughtily.
Be strong and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: Love the Lord, all you who worship him; the Lord protects the faithful.
Antiphon 2: Be glad, you righteous, and rejoice in the Lord; shout for joy, all who are true of heart.
While I held my tongue, my bones withered away,
because of my groaning all day long.
For your hand was heavy upon me day and night;
my moisture was dried up as in the heat of summer.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you,
and did not conceal my guilt.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.”
Then you forgave me the guilt of my sin.
Therefore all the faithful will make their prayers to you in time of trouble;
when the great waters overflow, they shall not reach them.
You are my hiding-place;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go;
I will guide you with my eye.
“Do not be like horse or mule, which have no understanding;
who must be fitted with bit and bridle,
or else they will not stay near you.”
Great are the tribulations of the wicked;
but mercy embraces those who trust in the Lord.
Be glad, you righteous, and rejoice in the Lord;
shout for joy, all who are true of heart.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: Be glad, you righteous, and rejoice in the Lord; shout for joy, all who are true of heart.
Antiphon 3: Fear the Lord, you that are his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing; the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.
Proclaim with me the greatness of the Lord;
let us exalt his Name together.
I sought the Lord, and he answered me
and delivered me out of all my terror.
Look upon him and be radiant,
and let not your faces be ashamed.
I called in my affliction and the Lord heard me
and saved me from all my troubles.
The angel of the Lord encompasses those who fear him,
and he will deliver them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
happy are they who trust in him!
Fear the Lord, you that are his saints,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
The young lions lack and suffer hunger,
but those who seek the Lord lack nothing good.
Come, children, and listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
Who among you loves life
and desires long life to enjoy prosperity?
Keep your tongue from evil-speaking
and your lips from lying words.
Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.
The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous,
and his ears are open to their cry.
The face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
to root out the remembrance of them from the earth.
The righteous cry, and the Lord hears them
and delivers them from all their troubles.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
and will save those whose spirits are crushed.
Many are the troubles of the righteous,
but the Lord will deliver him out of them all.
He will keep safe all his bones;
not one of them shall be broken.
Evil shall slay the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be punished.
The Lord ransoms the life of his servants,
and none will be punished who trust in him.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: Fear the Lord, you that are his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing; the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.
Antiphon 4: O Lord, refuge of the saints and their strong tower, you have granted a heritage to those who fear your Name, and they will dwell in your house for ever.
For you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.
I will dwell in your house for ever;
I will take refuge under the cover of your wings.
For you, O God, have heard my vows;
you have granted me the heritage of those who fear your Name.
Add length of days to the king’s life;
let his years extend over many generations.
Let him sit enthroned before God for ever;
bid love and faithfulness watch over him.
So will I always sing the praise of your Name,
and day by day I will fulfill my vows.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: O Lord, refuge of the saints and their strong tower, you have granted a heritage to those who fear your Name, and they will dwell in your house for ever.
Antiphon 5: Lord God of hosts, happy are they who put their trust in you; no good thing will you withhold from those who walk with integrity: they will always be praising you.
The sparrow has found her a house
and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young;
by the side of your altars, O Lord of hosts,
my King and my God.
Happy are they who dwell in your house!
they will always be praising you.
Happy are the people whose strength is in you!
whose hearts are set on the pilgrims’ way.
Those who go through the desolate valley will find it a place of springs,
for the early rains have covered it with pools of water.
They will climb from height to height,
and the God of gods will reveal himself in Zion.
Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
hearken, O God of Jacob.
Behold our defender, O God;
and look upon the face of your Anointed.
For one day in your courts is better than a thousand in my own room,
and to stand at the threshold of the house of my God
than to dwell in the tents of the wicked.
For the Lord God is both sun and shield;
he will give grace and glory;
No good thing will the Lord withhold
from those who walk with integrity.
O Lord of hosts,
happy are they who put their trust in you!
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: Lord God of hosts, happy are they who put their trust in you; no good thing will you withhold from those who walk with integrity: they will always be praising you.
Antiphon 6: You who love the Lord, rejoice in the Lord, and give thanks to his holy Name.
A fire goes before him
and burns up his enemies on every side.
His lightnings light up the world;
the earth sees it and is afraid.
The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
The heavens declare his righteousness,
and all the peoples see his glory.
Confounded be all who worship carved images
and delight in false gods!
Bow down before him, all you gods.
Zion hears and is glad, and the cities of Judah rejoice,
because of your judgments, O Lord.
For you are the Lord,
most high over all the earth;
you are exalted far above all gods.
The Lord loves those who hate evil;
he preserves the lives of his saints
and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Light has sprung up for the righteous,
and joyful gladness for those who are truehearted.
Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous,
and give thanks to his holy Name.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: You who love the Lord, rejoice in the Lord, and give thanks to his holy Name.
Absolution
May his loving kindness and mercy help us, who lives and reigns with the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.
Blessings
May God the Father Almighty be kind and merciful to us. Amen.
May Christ give us the joy of eternal life. Amen.
May God kindle the fire of his love in our hearts. Amen.
May the power of the Holy Trinity free us from all our faults and sins. Amen.

Third Nocturn
Antiphon: Bless the Lord, all his elect: keep days of gladness, and confess him.
For he afflicts, and he shows mercy;
he leads down to Hades in the lowest regions of the earth,
and he brings up from the great abyss,
and there is nothing that can escape his hand.
Acknowledge him before the nations, O children of Israel,
for he has scattered you among them.
He has shown you his greatness even there.
Exalt him in the presence of every living being,
because he is our Lord and he is our God;
he is our Father and he is God forever.
He will afflict you for your iniquities,
but he will again show mercy on all of you.
He will gather you from all the nations
among whom you have been scattered.
If you turn to him with all your heart and with all your soul,
to do what is true before him,
then he will turn to you
and will no longer hide his face from you.
So now see what he has done for you;
acknowledge him at the top of your voice.
Bless the Lord of righteousness,
and exalt the King of the ages.
In the land of my exile I acknowledge him,
and show his power and majesty to a nation of sinners:
“Turn back, you sinners, and do what is right before him;
perhaps he may look upon you and show you mercy.”
As for me, I exalt my God,
and my soul rejoices in the King of heaven.
Let all people speak of his majesty,
and acknowledge him in Jerusalem.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Acknowledge the Lord, for he is good,
and bless the King of the ages,
so that his tent may be rebuilt in you in joy.
May he cheer all those within you who are captives,
and love all those within you who are distressed,
to all generations forever.
A bright light will shine to all the ends of the earth;
many nations will come to you from far away,
the inhabitant of the remotest parts of the earth to your holy name,
bearing gifts in their hands for the King of heaven.
Generation after generation will give joyful praise in you,
the name of the chosen city will endure forever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Go, then, and rejoice over the children of the righteous,
for they will be gathered together
and will praise the Lord of the ages.
Happy are those who love you,
and happy are those who grieve with you
because of your afflictions;
for they will rejoice with you
and witness all your glory forever.
My soul blesses the Lord, the great King!
For Jerusalem will be built as his house for all ages.
How happy I will be if a remnant of my descendants should survive
to see your glory and acknowledge the King of heaven.
The gates of Jerusalem will be built with sapphire and emerald,
and all your walls with precious stones.
The towers of Jerusalem will be built with gold,
and their battlements with pure gold.
The streets of Jerusalem will be paved
with ruby and with stones of Ophir.
The gates of Jerusalem will sing hymns of joy,
and all her houses will cry, “Hallelujah!
Blessed be the God of Israel!
and the blessed will bless the holy name forever and ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.
Antiphon: Bless the Lord, all his elect: keep days of gladness, and confess him.
Absolution
May the almighty and merciful Lord free us from the bonds of our sins. Amen.
Blessings
May he bless us, who lives and reigns without end. Amen.
May Jesus Christ bring us to the joy of paradise. Amen.
May the divine assistance remain with us always. Amen.
May the King of the Angels bring us to the assembly of the heavenly city. Amen.
